Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the time commitment?

Each team will be assigned a minimum one hour long practice a week. Games are each Saturday, any time from 9am - 6pm at locations throughout the city as determined by Calgary Minor Basketball Association.

When does the basketball season start and end?

U11, U13, U15 - Evaluations will be held in September, practices will begin after evaluations and games will begin the around Thanksgiving. There are no games/practices during the Winter Break from school. The season ends around the end of February/beginning of March.

U18 HIGH SCHOOL - Evaluations will be held in early September, practices will start after evaluations and games will begin near the end of September. The season wraps up at the end of November in time for high school try outs. What night will my child practice?

Practice times and locations are not determined until after teams are formed at the end of the evaluation process.

Can I ask for my child to be placed on the same team as another player?

We are not able to accommodate any requests for specific teams/teammates due to the complexities of the evaluation process and the number of registrations that are processed.

I have registered my child, now what?

Evaluations will be held in September. Once those dates are confirmed, an email will be sent to all parents with the details of the evaluation. Please be proactive during the month of September and check back regularly for updates. Although we send the email as a courtesy, it is the responsibility of all parents/players to be aware of their scheduled evaluation times/locations.

Parents of U9 Tyke players can expect an email during the latter half of September outlining start dates and times; there are no evaluations for U9.

My child is unable to attend the scheduled evaluation. What should I do?

It is imperative that all players, excluding U9 Tykes, be evaluated in order to be placed on a team of equal skill level. In the event that you are unable to attend evaluations, please contact the age group coordinator for your child's age/gender group. Please be advised that players who miss evaluations may be placed on the lowest skilled team.

When do U9 Tykes start to play?

The U9 Tykes season starts in late September/early October and runs until the end of February

Why do I need to pay a uniform deposit and when will I get it returned?

SCCBA has invested a large amount of money into procuring uniforms for our teams. In order to ensure that these uniforms are cared for properly and returned at the end of the season, we ask for a uniform deposit cheque from each player. These cheques need to be post-dated to March of the following year, and need to be handed in at the first evaluation. Players will not be to participate without this cheque. At the end of the season, if the uniform is returned without damage, the cheque will be destroyed. If a uniform is not returned, or is returned damaged, the cheque will be cashed in order to cover the cost of a replacement uniform.

How Do I Register a Player or Coach?

Please select the "Coach and Player Registration" link on the top banner. This will direct you to the registration login. Login with your existing RAMP account or, if you are new to RAMP, please create a user account to register.

Once logged in, you can now register a new or existing player to a program or sign up as a Coach or Assistant Coach.

I do not see a registration package to register my child in. What do I do?

If no registration programs appear, the registration may not be open yet or may be closed. Please check back at the SCCBA website for registration dates. Please also ensure you have entered the correct birth date for your child.

How Do I Get Placed on the Waitlist

If there is room in our program after registration has closed, we will allow for waitlist registrations. This will appear in the same fashion as a regular registration after the registration deadline. You will be contacted if your player is accepted into the program. If there is no waitlist option, please consult the main www.sccba.ca to see if registration is still open.

My child has never played basketball before - can they still join?

Yes! The best part of community basketball is that there is a team for every level of skill - including beginners - at all age levels.
